Craig: so yesterday, nvidia unveiled project digits. okay? so remember that little raspberry pi looking ai thing that they released, last month

Jon: that we covered?

Craig: so this is like this on steroids. so this is a desktop sized system, which is powered by the new gb, the grace black superchip. so it's capable of running advanced ai models with, get this, up to two hundred billion parameters with the price starting at three thousand dollars. crazy. right?

Jon: wow. so

Craig: that's a great price. yeah.

Jon: you can

Craig: run the full llm any full llm on this desktop, which is cool. and for for the stuff that we're talking about too, it might be interesting for us to do because then we can run everything on this and create our own cloud server kind of thing, if that makes sense.

Jon: yeah. obviously, long term, it's definitely something good, but three thousand dollars is, you know, is nothing to sneeze at. but for running all these things, like, when you start to think about it, i would love to run all this stuff locally. and, you know, again, for some of the work we're doing, it might make sense because we could actually drop it off into a client location, configure it, and this is your box. this is your, ai automation box that does all these things.

Craig: yeah. so let me dive in a little bit deeper into the details. so it aims to bring supercomputer level ai processing power. that's what it is to individual developers, which is cool. the system runs on the linux based nvidia dgx os. so it's compatible with popular ai frameworks like pytorch and tensorflow. also, users will have access to nvidia's extensive ai software repository, including dev kits, pretrained models, and the nvidia mgc catalog. it also supports model refinement using nvidia's, neemo framework and can accelerate data science workflows with nvidia rapids libraries. i think this is a game changing device. i think so. it's part of, obviously, nvidia's larger strategy to dominate the ai hardware market. and then i know that you'd, you'd originally talked about the rtx, fifty series gpus. just quickly to touch on those, they're based on the blackwell architecture as well, which is cool, but the price is ridiculous. have you seen the price of these?

Jon: no. they looked expensive, like, two grand for one, wasn't it?

Craig: two grand for one. why not spend an extra grand to get the no. i'm just kidding. but, obviously, it's for gaming. but

Jon: yeah. i did glance at it this morning because you sent it to me this morning. i just did a quick look. but, let's back to this, digits ai. this looks great. two project digits ai supercomputers can be linked to run a four hundred and five billion parameter model.

Craig: crazy. right?

Jon: yeah. and that's, like, the biggest models that there are out well, that are publicly available right now. i don't know what's going on. this looks amazing, using the same grace blackwell architecture, and the nvidia enterprise ai software platform. so it allows them to prototype this and scale the cloud and data centers. and with more and more companies, taking back the cloud internally, you know, seems to being an old it guy, this goes in cycles. right? yeah. eventually, everybody realizes that moving to the cloud the cloud just means somebody else's computer. right? so are they better at running it than you are? and, eventually, you bring it back, and then you outsource it because whatever, different it changes. i'm really excited about this. i wasn't at first because i thought we were talking about something different. but now that's alright because you just sent me a brief text saying what's

Craig: going on. text at, like, five this morning when i was at the gym. yeah?

Jon: but this looks better than i thought. this is great. i love the idea of running this stuff at and i wanna take a look at performance because i looked at the performance on the other one, and it wasn't too bad. the two hundred fifty dollar one, but it wasn't great. no. and i can get similar speeds sometimes out of my mac, but, you know, i need more ram and whatnot. so you start looking at this. and if you can get, good response and good speed, token speed response, you know, hundreds of tokens per second, you're really talking about something interesting. and now and then if you add other things like, graphics, doing image or video editing and that kind of stuff where it's the ai is creating that for you or doing that. now you're really starting to talk about some interesting powerful systems. yeah. you know, i'm doing automation tools for people that actually create videos and put them together and as part of an ai flow that does all these things, and it's pretty much ai generated. and throwing that against a tool like this would make the job so much faster.

Craig: for sure. yeah.

Jon: so are you gonna run out and get one, john?

Craig: i don't know. one thing is i wonder if i can mine bitcoin. anyways, i don't know if i'd run out and get this one. i might run out and get the raspberry pi one. this one might be a couple years. we'll have to see. but yeah.

Jon: developers can fine tune the model with nvidia, nemo framework to accelerate the work. users can also harness nvidia blueprints and nvidia nam microservices, which are available for research. so this looks pretty good.

Craig: yeah. looks interesting.

Jon: and we'll have to see when it becomes available. did it say when we can buy it? because, you know

Craig: this year.

Jon: ces is happening now, but this year is twelve months. right? we're january seventh.

Craig: yeah. i don't know. it just said it'll be available this year, i think. i can't remember.

Jon: well, we'll have to keep an eye on it and see when it is available.

Craig: yeah.
