Episode Overview
Richard explains how his team has built a proven track record in creating innovative products and now aims to leverage that expertise into an expansive investment vehicle. By targeting companies struggling in the pet tech space, the discussion highlights opportunities to roll up distressed assets and integrate them into an evolving ecosystem. With a focus on combining IP assets—from wearables to AI-powered image recognition—with traditional pet care services, the potential for transforming the industry is immense.
The Vision Behind the Investment
Richard outlines a three-pronged strategy:
- Acquisition of Distressed Companies: Identifying and integrating struggling pet tech companies that have untapped potential.
- Early-Stage Investments: Capturing the risk/reward balance by investing in complex, innovative ideas too challenging to build internally.
- Transformation of Brick-and-Mortar Assets: Utilizing a suite of technological “lego bricks” to modernize traditional pet care services.
Pet Tech Investment Insights
This segment delves into how the strategic use of IP assets can drive significant improvements in customer engagement and operational efficiency within the pet care sector. Richard discusses his belief that the next decade will witness dramatic transformations in pet longevity and AI-driven pet care, presenting a compelling argument for why partnering with visionary funders could accelerate this change.
Key Takeaways
- A bold approach to integrating innovation with traditional pet care.
- A multi-faceted strategy focusing on acquisitions, investments, and technological transformation.
- A call to action for funders who share a long-term vision for industry transformation.

Speaker 0: can you tell us about your hundred million dollar investment vehicle? yeah. i mean, the idea here is okay. so we've we've been, you know, relatively successful in building something on our own. and and so we kind of said, okay. we know how to build things on our own, right, that are innovative and different. and, you know, we managed to kinda make a little bit of a name for ourselves and and, you know, trying to remain humble here. like, it's not not some crazy success, but but, you know, we've we've proven that we can do this, though it's been difficult. and then we we sort of think that, okay. so if we have this ability, what if we were to then go and pick up sadly, there is a lot of companies that don't make it. okay? so there is a lot of distressed pet tech companies. there is also quite a lot of, companies that can't secure funding. right? but they're kinda still alive. okay? so we're sort of, okay. could we pick up some of these distressed companies and roll them up to us if they could function inside of the ecosystem of what we have? and they're opportunistic. that could be interesting. and then second to that, could we invest in some companies where we wouldn't wanna build it ourselves, because it's complex and it's very different from from our capabilities? and then but it's very early, so we're like you know, the risk profile is still kind of you know, the risk versus reward it's still very risky. but, you know, you take a clip in them. okay. and then it's like, okay. we got all these ip. can we go and help to now transform brick and mortar companies in the pet space and sort of web one based companies with the ips that we have? so we have, like, different lego bricks. right? we got, you know, a we got a wearable. we got a longevity program. we have a self assessment tool. we have, you know, maybe maybe, you know, image recognition, where you snap pictures. so we have these different lego bricks. then we can take these lego bricks and kinda go to b partners and say, what is your want and needs? like, what is your biggest headache? how can we help you to to add more value to your existing customers, but also to, you know, bring in new customers. and i think that that's kind of our thinking about an investment vehicle, not a fund, but a vehicle where we can build, invest, acquire, transform, and operate these different assets. and the idea is to kind of raise somewhere between fifty up to a hundred million and to kind of be relatively aggressive building this group that we call pet longevity group where the focus is dogs, cats, pet care as a sector, and then feline, canine, and then artificial intelligence and longevity and pet tech to a degree. right? and so that's that's what we're working on. we haven't realized this whole investment yet, but we are in several, meaningful conversations. and, you know, we'll we'll see. this is not a fund, so it's different. it's not an lpgp relationship. this is like, you know, we look for, like, one funder who comes in and say, okay. we truly believe that the next ten years will be, you know, transformed by ai and longevity initiatives in the pet care sector, and and we wanna partner with you guys. we think you have what it takes. but if we come in, like, we think that the possibility of us of you succeeding, but, like, collectively, like, we we got a bigger chance. and so that's kinda what we're looking at.
