Work-life Freedom for Entrepreneurs

In Episode 214 of the Startup Talk Podcast, host The Startup Coach engages in a compelling discussion with Graham Wong, founder and CEO of LAUFT, on achieving work-life freedom for entrepreneurs. The conversation delves into the importance of valuing time and maintaining balance while building a startup.

Key Takeaways:

  • Valuing Time: Graham emphasizes that entrepreneurs should prioritize their time across all aspects of life, including family, partners, and colleagues. By doing so, they can show up as the best version of themselves in each area.
  • Work-Life Freedom vs. Balance: Instead of striving for a traditional work-life balance, Graham advocates for “work-life freedom,” which focuses on the flexibility to manage one’s time effectively and be fully present in both professional and personal endeavors.
  • Personal Experience: Drawing from his journey, Graham shares that dedicating every moment to a vision can lead to neglecting personal relationships and life outside of work. He advises entrepreneurs to be mindful of this tendency and to actively work on valuing and allocating time appropriately.

Speaker 0: work life freedom. loft prioritizes flexibility and time for users. mhmm. what advice do you have for entrepreneurs juggling work life and building a start up?

Speaker 1: yeah. i'm gonna i'm gonna be like one of those doctors that tells you don't do this. don't do what i do because, you know, this is something that i i have actively had to work on. the thing i tell anyone who's asking about this is, i think as an entrepreneur, you really have to value your time. right? time is the you know, many of us go into this, and we say, hey. listen. like, i'm gonna give minute, every second of this day just to this vision. and then inevitably, what happens is you might, you know, poke your head up and you say, oh, wow. life you know, that's work, but life really kind of left. right? you might even turn around and go, wow. i haven't talked to this friend in three years. right? and i think that if you value your time, it helps to, unlock those filters that you need to sort of say, okay. i'm gonna show up and be my best for the time that i need to, but in all aspects of my life, like with family, with, you know, your partners, with your your your colleagues, everything. and, it provides more balance. so we don't say work life balance. we say work life freedom because freedom is about being able to value your time and show up and be the best version of yourself. and so my advice is value your time. what know why you're doing it and value it.
