Toronto startup news: Revolve Surgical, BrandMo Tech and KOHO

TorontoStarts·October 13, 2026

A surgical robotics milestone, a Toronto adtech launch and KOHO’s banking ambitions: what changed, when it happened and why founders should pay attention.

Toronto startup news: Revolve Surgical, BrandMo Tech and KOHO

Three Toronto companies are making different kinds of progress: Revolve Surgical has reached a first human procedure, BrandMo Tech has announced an advertising platform, and KOHO is pursuing a banking licence. Here is what changed, when it happened, and what founders can learn from it.

Revolve Surgical reaches its first human operation

The Globe and Mail reports that Dr. Joao De Rezende-Neto used Revolve’s robotic arm for an appendix removal at St. Michael’s Hospital on October 1, 2026. The Toronto company builds a bedside system for minimally invasive surgery.

The registered Unity Health Toronto pilot describes three patients and progressively increasing use of the device. A first procedure is a development milestone; the study has not established broad clinical results.

For founders building regulated hardware, this is a useful example of a milestone that goes beyond a demonstration: using the product in its intended setting under a defined study protocol. Read the Revolve Surgical profile or the original Globe report.

BrandMo Tech names Toronto as its headquarters

BrandMo announced its advertising technology platform on September 23, 2026. Its company release names Toronto as global headquarters and describes audience intelligence connected to campaign activation across connected TV, mobile, apps and desktop.

The company says it plans to expand its Toronto team over 12–24 months. The release does not disclose a funding round. Its launch is a September announcement receiving fresh attention in October.

The founder question is practical: what specific customer problem does your product address? BrandMo’s stated focus is cultural context in audience targeting. The useful next evidence would be customer results showing where that approach improves a campaign. Read the BrandMo profile and its company announcement.

KOHO sets a product boundary while pursuing a bank licence

In an October BetaKit interview, KOHO CEO Daniel Eberhard discussed the company’s pursuit of a Schedule 1 banking licence and said KOHO would not offer prediction markets. The interview does not announce approval of the licence.

The $130 million raise referenced in the coverage was announced in June 2026. It should not be counted as new October funding.

For founders, the decision offers a product-strategy discussion: which opportunities fit the business you are building, and which would take it elsewhere? A growing company still needs a clear answer about what it will offer. Read the KOHO profile, the BetaKit interview and KOHO’s June announcement.
